Welcome to the Official Site of the Central Oklahoma Cherokee Alliance COCA
What is COCA?
COCA is an organization made up of individuals from central Oklahoma with an interest in Cherokee language, history and government. COCA seeks to provide an opportunity for all people interested in learning more about all things Cherokee.
How long has COCA been organized?
The founding members of COCA began meeting early in 2008 to discuss the concept of a Cherokee community group for central Oklahoma. COCA held its kickoff meeting on June 19th in Oklahoma City at the Will Rogers Theatre. Over 200 attended, and were entertained by a great performance by the Cherokee National Youth Choir. Miss Indian Oklahoma assisted in the door prize drawings, and Tribal Councilors Jack Baker and Dr. Julia Coates assisted in emceeing the event. Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith gave the keynote address. Many information tables were on site, including the Cherokee Heritage Center, Cherokee Nation Enterprises (the gaming enterprise of the Cherokee Nation), representatives from Cherokee Nation Community Services and the Cherokee Nation Registration Department. It was a great event!
When is the next COCA meeting?
COCA holds regular meetings on the third Tuesday of even numbered months at the Mayflower United Congregational Church: 3901 NW 63rd St., Oklahoma City, OK 73116.
